Local Intervention Network for Kids, INC, known as the L.I.N.K. Mentoring Program was established in 2007 as a school-based mentoring program that focused on character building and leadership skills. The L.I.N.K. Mentoring Program serviced over 3,000 middle school youth at four Metro Detroit area Charter Schools and was funded through the U.S. Department of Education. In 2018, the name was changed to L.I.N.K. Organization due to expanding the mentoring objective to include Workforce Development and Entrepreneurship.
The L.I.N.K. Organization currently operates in schools in the Metro Detroit area, targeting youth in grades 3-8. Our volunteer mentors consist of the Wayne State University Men’s Basketball team, automotive engineers, and other members of the community. We have also partnered with Junior Achievement of Southeast Michigan who provides the financial literacy curriculum for our youth. Youth also learn about non-traditional careers in traditional career fields, college/vocational opportunities, and entrepreneurship through hands-on projects, guest speakers, company tours, and collaborative research. In addition, the L.I.N.K. Organization promotes networking opportunities for mentors, mentees, and community business owners.
The LINK Organization would like to increase partnerships and sponsorships with the mission of providing mentor support to more youth. We are currently a school-based program with the goal to expand further into the community. If you are interested in becoming a partner, sponsor, or volunteer, please click the link above. “I enjoy the mentoring program because we learn a lot by doing different activities. Like playing golf, which taught us about problem solving and goal setting. I learned that I like helping people and how to control my anger.”
“My experience with mentoring was fascinating. My mentor and I always had fun together. She taught me how to be mature in situations and ignore ignorance. My 7th grade year would’ve been terrible without her.
“I learned a lot about perspective, like how to see things from different ways to help me find solutions.”
“I enjoy spending time with the mentors. It’s like having cool big brothers.
They help me stay positive.”
